I’ve been able to make reusable pads

I’ve always had issues during my menstruation. And I never used to have money on me to buy sanitary towels. My parents only paid school fees, this was very challenging because as a girl I had other needs like pads, even jelly to smear my body. But they turned a deaf ear when I asked for them because they felt pads were nothing compared to the school fees they were paying. My happiest moment was when Nile Girls organized a workshop where they gave us free practical skills in Candle making, Soap making and making reusable sanitary pads at the community hall.

I’ve been able to make reusable pads for sale and keep some for myself. I can now use the money to cater for my personal demands. As someone that had dropped out of school I had lost hope, I had never imagined that I could be able to make reusable pads and liquid soap. I also want to share these skills with other girls so that they can earn some money.

l grew up with a single mother

l grew up with a single mother my father died when I was a toddler. My mother didn’t have money to buy me pads, So I used to worry whenever my periods started. Thanks to Nile girls now I’m able to make reusable sanitary pads and also earn a living from the skills they gave us.

I also learnt to make liquid soap which I use to do my laundry this has helped my mother save money at home. Also when my sisters dropped out of school I was able to show them how to make reusable sanitary pads and liquid soap which has helped them live sustain

Change Making Through Collective Action

As a result of speaking about keeping girls in school even after they got pregnant, we have seen more girls being given the second chance at education. More parents now appreciate the value of educating the girl child
